Scaramouche and Ofsted!

Now what could possibly be the link between Scaramouche, the sailing programme and Ofsted?!

In the penultimate week of term we received the Ofsted phone call telling us that they would be in the next day to inspect the school. Intensive data analysis, interviews with pupils, staff and Governors were carried out and lesson observations took place over the next two days.  The final report has now been published awarding “Good” in every category.  This included the Sixth Form meaning that Mr Holt continues to be highly successful in his day job as well as leading the sailing programme!

The place of extra-curricular activity, outdoor education and sailing is identified in the actual report…

“The academy has an extensive extra-curricular programme of sport, outdoor pursuits, art, music and drama that inspires pupils to strive for personal excellence outside of the classroom.”

The report goes on to highlight sailing…

“The academy owns boats, including a yacht moored in Poole Harbour, and many pupils are given the opportunity to learn to sail. Pupils are proud to be part of the academy’s ‘sailing club’ and were keen to tell their stories to inspectors. For instance, three Year 11 pupils told of their desire to study close to the sea so that they could continue to sail.”

How amazing to see the impact the impact the project has had and the way in which it is already changing the lives of these young people.

Now if we could just find a sponsor!
